JCD and Dundee College recognised in Developing The Young Workforce awards

Joan’s work as an Associate Artist of Scottish School of Contemporary Dance (SSCD) has been recently celebrated with a recognition award by Dundee and Angus Developing the Youth Workforce programme for its contribution in helping young people to move from education into employment.

During the last year, students of all years could join company class during JCD’s residencies at the School. Joan was also involved as a jury member and mentor in the School’s recent choreographic competition, supporting four students to further develop and stage the works (some of which have been successfully presented outside the School context). Joan has also continued to mentor two graduating BA students, Agata Biela and Niamh O’Loughlin, as part of the SSCD Associate Artist Awards, which recognise every year learners who have shown outstanding progress or engaged proactively with the professional dance community.

Joan says  “I am delighted that our partnership with SSCD and Dundee and Angus College has been publicly recognised. This is a mutual support relationship, based on exchange and aimed at connecting learners at SSCD with the wider professional community and to nurture the next generation of dance artists in Scotland. Since 2014, this partnership has also been a huge support in the development of my choreographic practice. I look forward to continuing our collaboration and achieving even more in the future”.
